Our specialized Certification course in the Perception-Action Approach is tailored exclusively for professionals like you who have taken the IPAA “Learn to Move, Move to Learn Course” and are aiming to enhance your therapeutic skills. Now you can gain certification in this transformative intervention approach.  

This interactive 3-day advanced course focuses on the Perception-Action (P-A) Approach and will help you gain a deeper understanding of perception-action, dynamic systems and neuronal group selection theories and how they influence clinical intervention strategies, creating impactful experiences for your young clients.  

Participants will expand their knowledge of the P-A Approach intervention into clinical practice which includes environmental modifications, task-specific manual guidance and caregiver instruction.  

Under the supervision of masters of the approach, clinicians will discover how to adapt and modify intervention sessions for children with movement disorders to meet individual needs and support progress in various areas of development.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:  

  1. Develop intervention strategies based on findings from a P-A Approach Examination using the four primary concepts.
  2. Create an intervention session that includes environmental modifications, manual guidance and caregiver instruction.
  3. Analyze hands-on intervention sessions and discuss how the three theories influenced clinical intervention strategies.
  4. Adjust selected intervention strategies based on the child/children’s performance as it relates to the unique defining characteristics and major components of the P-A Approach.
  5. Generate two potential changes or adaptations to your intervention strategy that support progress in global development.

2:00 – 3:15  Patient #1 assessment/intervention and discussion

4:45 – 5:30  Demo Group discussion continued using Examination Form and Knowledge Assessment Tool

4:45 – 5:30    Begin Small Group Problem Solving using the videos of your patient sessions. Refer to the Examination Form and the Knowledge Assessment Tool to guide your discussion and prepare for your presentations scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Course Schedule: Day 3

9:00 – 11:00  Patient Video Analysis: Treating pairs of therapists will present using the video of their patient session. Each therapist in the pair will be required to present using their treating portion of the session.

12:00 – 1:00  Lunch

1:00 – 1:45  LAB #5:

1:45 – 2:00   Patient Set-up

2:00 – 3:15   Patient #1 intervention session with caregiver instruction and discussion.

Lisa N. Scher is a physical therapist and Certified Perception-Action Approach Instructor who has presented nationally and internationally to numerous groups of pediatric physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists and at national conferences. She has over 40 years of experience providing physical therapy services in a variety of practice settings, including over 15 years as the owner of a private pediatric practice.  Ms. Scher is a founding member, past President and current Chair of Marketing of the Institute for Perception-Action Approach. She is working privately providing direct patient care and mentoring of therapists.
