New Webinars!

New->Hips to Lips: The Importance of Posture, Alignment and Movement on Feeding, Oral Motor and Speech Skills. On-line. This webinar is designed to offer pediatric clinicians an opportunity to observe a dynamic hands-on, evidenced based approach to intervention. Through the introduction of new concepts, you will see how the Perception-Action Approach will enhance outcomes for infants and children with motor based respiratory, feeding, oral motor and speech disorders. In
addition, the impact on a child’s ability to focus, attend and learn will be discussed. Please join us for this 1 hour webinar as we explore the Hips to Lips connection through the eyes of the Perception-Action Approach.

Instructor: Ilene Sperling, MA, CCC
New->A Perception-Action Approach Refresher and Review - Pediatric Update: What’s New? On-line. A 5-hour live webinar is presented for clinicians who have completed Levels I and II Perception-Action Approach (P-A Approach) coursework. Concepts, theories and clinical application will be examined using discussion, patient examples, didactic methods and labs. Updated information will be discussed related to enhancing global development, adapting intervention to varied caseloads, and involving caregivers in ways that extend intervention dosage.

Child - Environment Connection:  Learn how this connection impacts intervention and outcomes for children with movement disorders through the lens of the Perception-Action Approach. On-line. Pediatric therapists are looking for the most effective approach when working with their clients. One intervention, supported by current research, is the Perception-Action Approach. This 1-hour live webinar will focus on the relationship of a child’s contact with various support surfaces and its importance for movement and function. Appreciating the implications of this relationship when considering intervention strategies will be highlighted. Components of the Perception-Action Approach, including manual guidance and environmental set-up, will be discussed. This alternative way of thinking will change the focus of your intervention with children with movement disorders. Instructor: Lisa N. Scher, PT, C/PAA, C/PAA-Instructor

The Role of Perception-Action in Learning: Implications for Assessment and Treatment of Children with Movement Disorders:  Introduction to Perception-Action Approach
On-line. Pediatric therapists are looking for the most effective, evidenced based interventions for their clients/patients.  One such intervention, supported by current research, is the Perception-Action Approach. This 1-hour live webinar highlights the theory of Perception-Action and its role in the developmental and therapeutic process.  The concepts of variability, environmental affordances, manual guidance and environmental set-up will be discussed. This alternative way of thinking will change your perception of how typically and atypically developing children acquire motor skills.

Movement Matters: Introduction to Perception-Action Approach
A paradigm shift in clinical reasoning is occurring that affects pediatric therapists who are selecting the most effective interventions for their clients/patients. In keeping with research into neuroplasticity, participants will gain the ability to modify intervention to be task-specific, repetitive, and highly salient to the child. The theoretical foundation, primary concepts, and unique characteristics of the P-A Approach will be described

Every Movement Counts: Understanding Motor Skill Acquisition
How and why do children acquire motor skills? Through the introduction of the Perception-Action Approach concepts in this course, participants of all clinical disciplines will gain a new insight into the development of functional skills and the importance of perceptual-motor experiences for the child’s global development.

Learn to Move, Move to Learn:  Therapeutic Management of Children with Movement Disorders - A Comprehensive Course in the Application of the Perception-Action Approach

This interactive, 5-day certification track workshop immerses therapists in the Perception-Action Approach. Participants are provided a unique opportunity to apply this intervention while working with children with movement disorders with supervision, real-time feedback, analysis and group discussion. This evidence-based approach provides the clinician with practical strategies that can be used to improve functional outcomes across diagnoses.

5-day course breakdown to be determined for each scheduled course as needed. Options include 5 consecutive days in person; HYBRID - 2 days online/3 days in person; four-4 hour sessions online/3 days in person.
